  A Valentine Destiny

Grace Summers is Destiny, Colorado’s newest resident. She’s come for the position as counselor at the Stone Boys Ranch. When Grace learns about the unique lifestyles of the citizens of the town, she responds on a very deep level. She’s trained as a submissive, but the two men she’s most attracted to don’t seem interested in her.

For nine months, Brock and Cooper, two resident Doms at the local BDSM club, have had their eyes on Grace. Even though Brock wants her, his dark past has kept him from pursuing her. Cooper feels guilty for what happened to Brock in Afghanistan. He believes that Grace is the perfect woman for them to share, but he can’t convince Brock they should ask her out.

With love in the Colorado air and with Valentine’s night approaching, doubts are finally cast aside. Brock and Cooper show Grace how much they’ve wanted her and she surrenders to the Doms of her dreams.

  Chapter One

Inside her office, Grace Summers finished writing in her notepad. It was Tuesday, normally a day off for her, but she’d made an exception today. The session with thirteen-year-old Michael Rollins was just like the first one—very little progress. The kid didn’t trust her and was completely closed off.

Michael had arrived with six-year-old Joey Blake less than a week ago. They were the most recent orphans to be taken in by the Boys Ranch. Though Michael had come from New York and Joey from Louisiana, they seemed joined at the hip despite their differences in age. Not uncommon, since they were both new.

“Michael, it’s clear that you aren’t happy here.” Grace handed him a notepad. “Next time we meet I want you to bring me a list of everything that bugs you about the ranch.”

“That’ll be really easy.” The troubled teen glared at her.

His black hoodie and torn jeans were very familiar to Grace and everyone else at the ranch. They were the clothes he was wearing the day he’d stepped out of the van and onto the property. They were the only clothes he ever wore. He refused to wear anything else, despite having been given several outfits that all the kids received their first day. She had no doubt that some of the reason for his clothing choice was rebellion. But there was another reason. The hoodie and jeans, though threadbare, were familiar to him and likely gave him a sense of control.

Many would look at Michael and see a punk, but she saw something else in him. Something worth fighting for.

“I look forward to talking with you again on Friday.” She stood and walked to her office door.

“Like I have a choice.” He jumped up and folded his arms. “You’re the shrink in this place.”

  “Not a psychiatrist, Michael. I’m a psychologist.”

  “Whatever. Same thing.”

She knew he was trying to provoke her. “In some ways, yes, but there are differences. Michael, if you don’t feel like talking Friday, perhaps you would rather just listen.”

“Maybe I won’t come at all.” He folded his arms and narrowed his eyes. “Then you can have me kicked out. That’s what you want, isn’t it?”

“You’re not going to get rid of us that easy, Michael.” Reading his file had broken her heart. He’d been in the system for years and had been kicked out of two other orphanages and five foster homes before coming to the Boys Ranch. It was clear to her that he never felt like anyone ever cared for him. That had been the reason for his misbehaving and lashing out. He just wanted someone to give a damn about him. That’s all. In many ways, his story reminded Grace of her own life. “You know, Michael, that the only boys who get to go on the camp
out tomorrow need to have completed three sessions with me. You and I have only had two so far. If you promise to see me again I could make an exception.”

“Fine. I’ll think about it, but it’s still dumb. Who wants to go on a stupid campout anyway?”

Grace fought the urge to grin, realizing that he wanted to go, despite his words. “I know you’re from the city. Are you afraid of snakes?”

“I’m not afraid of anything,” he shot back. “Besides, I know what to do if I see a snake. They’re no big deal if you’re smart.”

“That’s good, because little Joey is very afraid of them.”

  “He’s also afraid of ghosts.”

Michael had a tough shell, no doubt about it, but she’d seen him put his arm protectively around Joey the day they had arrived. Michael was a good kid who just needed someone to care about him. “He needs a mentor like you to help him.”

Michael puffed out his chest and smiled. “Sure. I’ll toughen him up like me.”

Watching Michael walk to the dorm, she smiled, happy to have gained a little ground with him. She loved her job, loved being at the Boys Ranch, and loved living in Destiny.

Just nine months and she felt more at home than any place else she’d ever lived. But Destiny, Colorado, wasn’t like most towns. The common practice of polygamy wouldn’t have been tolerated other places. During her very first interview for the job, Amber Stone, the founder of the Boys Ranch, had made it quite clear how open-minded the people of Destiny were. When Grace had met Amber’s three husbands, she realized just how open-minded that meant.

And meeting all the lovely people of Destiny had proven to her that love came in a variety of ways. She’d even begun imagining what it might be like if she ended up in such a relationship, especially with two particular sexy Doms she’d met at the BDSM club.

As she walked to the little house the Stones had built for her on the ranch, Grace thought about how much Michael’s life was going to change here. Her own life certainly had since her arrival. His would, too. He just needed more time. Her biggest change had come as a result of Amber taking her to the club, Phase Four. What a night that had been. Grace had been shocked as well as intrigued by everything she’d witnessed. Doms and subs had demonstrated all kinds of BDSM play.

She’d gone back to the club, week after week. Phase Four had opened up a whole new world to her. And yet the two Doms whose attention she wanted to catch hadn’t shown any interest in her. Brock Grayson and Cooper Ross, the two sexiest men she’d ever seen.

They were part of Shannon’s Elite, a CIA Special Ops group headquartered in town. They were also club Doms who enforced the rules, held classes about the lifestyle, and trained new members. Except me. Why?

The Doms who had trained her had taught her so much. She appreciated them, but that was as far as it went. They were nice guys but the chemistry wasn’t there for her.

At her front door, she fished out her keys from her purse. Tonight was club night, and she couldn’t wait to go and show off her new outfit. She hoped that the short leather mini and red top with the plunging neckline might catch Brock and—

“How did it go with Michael?” Brock Grayson’s voice startled her.

She dropped her keys. “You scared me.”

“Didn’t mean to.” He retrieved her keys and handed them to her.

She could feel heat in her cheeks and knew her face had to be red. “You have to stop sneaking up on me like that.”

He smiled and she felt her knees go weak. “I wasn’t sneaking up on you, Dr. Summers. I was just leaning up against that tree over there when I saw you and Michael walk out.”

“Is this one of your volunteer days?” Besides being such a good guy who volunteered at the Boys Ranch several days a month, Brock also had the deepest blue eyes she’d ever seen on anyone, though he rarely was without his mirrored sunglasses.

“Not today. The Stone brothers asked me to meet them.”

“Ah.” Why did she always get nervous when she was around him?

Brock wore his blond hair short. Even though today he had on his dark suit and tie that most of the members of Shannon’s Elite wore, she’d seen much more of his muscled physique last summer.

The day she’d arrived at the Boys Ranch, he’d been teaching the kids how to swim.

Tanned skin, ripped abs, and bulging biceps. What had shocked her was how many scars covered his body. Even the small scar above his left eye added to his rugged good looks. He’d clearly been through hell, but that didn’t seem to stop him from smiling and having fun. She’d asked Amber and some of the other women in town if they knew what had happened to him, but no one seemed to know about his past. Made some sense to her since he had only arrived in Destiny a few months before she had. Still, everyone liked him.

Her first day at the ranch, walking by the pool up to the main house, she’d heard one of the boys ask Brock about his scars. He’d smiled. “You should see the other guy.”

She was certain there was more to it than that.

Now it was February and the pool was closed. She missed the hot Colorado days.

“So how is Michael doing?” Brock asked.

“Pretty well, considering all he’s been through.” She could tell he was sympathetic to the kid. Could the reason be connected to his scars?

“Don’t give up on him, Doc.”

  “I won’t. That’s not my style.”

“That’s one of the things I like about you, Grace. You never give up, no matter how tough the challenge.”

More heat rolled through her. Brock rarely called her by name and never gave her any compliments. She looked into his eyes, trying to come up with the right words to say to him. There’s so much I like about you, too.

She heard a vehicle approaching, and Brock looked past her. “My buddy is here.”

She turned and saw Cooper parking his car by the barn.

“Nice talking to you.” He turned and walked Cooper’s direction.

She watched as the two Doms greeted each other. A swarm of butterflies stirred in her belly.

Brock and Cooper had moved to Destiny together. They were inseparable. Everyone in town called them brothers, though they weren’t related in any way—easy to tell just by their looks. Quite the opposite of Brock, Cooper had dark hair and dark eyes, although he had the same great physique as Brock.

Cooper waved at her. Dressed just like Brock, he wore the typical CIA suit.

Waving back, she felt warm all over.

Needing a moment to catch her breath, she unlocked her door and went inside.

Tossing her purse on the table, she walked into her bedroom. A nice warm bath would help relax her and give her a chance to settle her mind. She stripped out of her clothes, and before climbing into the tub, she took a long hard look at her reflection in the full-length mirror.

Her auburn hair hung down past her shoulders. My hair looks shiny to me. Maybe they don’t like redheads. She stared at her eyes, which were bright green. I always thought they were my best feature. Has Brock or Cooper even noticed? No. She was five-seven. Maybe I’m too tall for them? But they were both very tall, well over six feet. Maybe too short? Her breasts were still perky and ample. Maybe it’s my butt that they don’t like. She turned around, taking stock of her backside assets. Her booty had a nice curve but wasn’t overly pooched out like was popular with Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Jennifer Lopez.

She sunk down into the tub, loving the feel of the warm water on her skin.

God, she was so attracted to those two. Was it nuts to keep holding on to hope that one day they would actually take notice of her? Of course it is.

  Chapter Two

Cooper shook hands with Brock, who was his best friend and just like a brother. “Enjoying your day off?”

“I am. Did Easton ever let you know when you two have to fly to Langley?”

“Tomorrow at noon. We fly back late Friday.”

“Glad it is you and not me. I hate the dog a
nd pony show.”

“Don’t worry. I’ve got us covered. Shannon’s Elite will get the funding we need.”

“Good to know, because I love it here. I don’t want to ever move.”

“Nor do I.” Cooper thought this was the best segue to let Brock know why he had come to the Boys Ranch. “I saw you talking with Grace.”

As expected, Brock stiffened and shrugged it off. “I was only asking her about that new kid, Michael.”

  He knew better. “Uh-huh.”

  Brock shrugged.

Whenever Cooper brought up the subject about how interested he was in Grace, Brock would completely shut down—like now. He knew his friend was ready to move into the next chapter of their lives, even if Brock didn’t know it. He’d been patient, not pushing Brock, who had been through hell. And God knows I owe him.

The memory of that fateful night that changed everything was as clear to him as if it had been yesterday instead of nine years ago.

The night sky above Afghanistan was free of clouds and there was a full moon, increasing the visibility greatly. On the outside of their base’s perimeter fence, they were on patrol in their Humvee. Brock was driving, McGill was in the turret, and he sat in the copilot seat. An IED exploded, flipping their vehicle.

The Humvee rolled down a hill. McGill was thrown out of the vehicle first and Brock second. Miraculously, he remained inside. It finally came to a stop upside down, teetering at the edge of a cliff.

“Coop, you okay?” Brock’s voice came through his earwigs.

Every breath Cooper took hurt like hell. “I’ve got some cracked ribs I think, but nothing else. What about you?”
